What's in the Forsman Future?

Spelling
We will be working with List # 7 next week.  Please continue to ask your student about the phonics rules in the spelling list and work on "tapping out" words to decode them.  Also, the spelling lists that come home have "challenge" words on the back... Unless your student in working with the challenge list, please study only the regular list of words each week.

Reading

I have been working with many of your students in guided reading groups starting this week.  We use a "good fit" book and work on our reading strategies.  I will usually start out by modeling the strategy and encouraging the use of the strategy throughout the session.  This has been a great way to reach many 3rd grade readers!

Math
We start Chapter 3 next week on addition strategies.  We will be working on our flash cards here in school but it continues to be important to study these at home.  The more confident the students are with their addition facts the easier math will become for them as concepts get more difficult as the year progresses.  We will also continue to work with touch math as a strategy for solving addition problems.
