What's in the Forsman Future?

Spelling
Our class will pretest List #15 on Monday and have our graded test on Friday. The assigned packet of homework will be due on Friday!

Reading
In addition to finishing the novel Horrible Harry, we will be touching on biographies as a new genre while spotlighting famous African Americans for Black History Month (February). The students each need to select a famous African American person, bring in five facts and 5 photos (printouts or magazine cutouts) that illustrate those 5 facts. We will work on the project here in school.

Reading RTI

My tier 3 reading group has made beautiful and large gains in reading this year as seen by their recent MAPs scores so we are planning on keeping up the good work. We focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension daily through the Wilson and Lexia phonics programs, Michael Heggarty phonemic awareness program, and the Soar to Success guided reading model.

Math

We are continuing our work with the metric system of measurement. It can be particularly challenging to distinguish between the customary and metric units of measurement once the students have been exposed to them all so this will be a focus as we complete this current chapter.

Math RTI

We are starting with new math RTI groups this week as well as adding a tier 3 math RTI group (an additional 30 minutes a day of math instruction - 60 minutes total). We are excited about this opportunity.

English
This week's prompt: Name and describe a new fruit or vegetable that kids will eat. Try to elaborate and add exciting details to your response. Make it into a paragraph and think of 6 sentences to support your topic sentence. You could even make this into a creative story!

Tune in next Friday for more Forsman Fun!
