What's in the Forsman Future?

Lexile Helpers: Hi Parents/Families! As other teachers might have expressed, we are assigning a lexile score to each of our classroom books in order to make it easier for students to select books to read that are at their level. This is very time consuming so any help that parents could give during the school day is appreciated. I would have a station set up ready to go and you could stay as little/long as you can or would like to. Please e-mail me if you are interested and able to help out. This would greatly assist our reading instruction. :) Thanks!

Spelling
We are taking some time away from the regular spelling lists so that we can focus on analogies. We will have an analogies test on Friday after much in class instruction this week.

Reading
Mrs. Forsman's reading class will start a novel study using the novel Horrible Harry in Room 2B. We will focus on understanding story elements like characters, settings, and plots. We will also integrate the reading strategies that we have already studied thus far in the school year.

Reading RTI
My Tier 3 RTI group is continuing to work on the five areas of reading: fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. The students have been really excited about Downers Grove's history and our upcoming field trip. We also have fostered a love of non-fiction reading using Time for Kids magazines! In the coming weeks we will be working on using our reading skills more independently and in small groups versus teacher led.

Math
We are starting Chapter 5 next week on money and time. This is a great measurement chapter and we have fun activities planned to help students comprehend these life skills. Elapsed time is typically a difficult concept for students so please try to supplement our teaching here in school at home in this area if possible.

Math RTI
We will continue to preview and review the concepts from the 3rd grade math curriculum as well as supplementing with number sense intervention and review. We have had great success with rounding and are ready to focus on time and money to support what is being learned in the classroom!

English
This week's prompt:
Would you rather be an airplane pilot or an astronaut? Explain. Try to elaborate and add exciting details to your response. Make it into a paragraph and think of 6 sentences to support your topic sentence. You could even make this into a creative story!

Tune in next Friday for more Forsman Fun!
